Concrete Coating: What You Need to Know

Concrete weight coating provides operators with a two-for-one solution without the extra hassle. It serves as both a buoyancy control weight and an extra protective layer for the pipe. Concrete weight coating stabilizes pipelines to make sure they hold fast at water crossings.

It takes just one monolithic pour to produce this dense, vibrated concrete, which weighs in at a minimum of 143 pounds per cubic foot. The result is a smooth coating that’s easy to launch and lay, providing the protection and stability you need to secure these critical assets.

Designed for Tough Service

All pipe coated by Allan Edwards is reinforced with heavy gauge wire located in the center of the jacket. Our concrete coated pipe provides a minimum compressive strength of 3000 pounds per square inch or higher. This translates to extra strength to hold the pipe in place at river crossings, flood plains, swamps and other open water crossings. Concrete thickness ranges from 1-12 inches and can service any pipe diameter.

Determining Net Buoyancy

Before specifying concrete coated pipe thickness, it’s necessary to determine net buoyancy for your specific application. Bed conditions in which pipe will lay can affect net buoyancy by as much as fifty to one hundred percent. As a precaution, always obtain a local soil sample before making any calculations.

Our Commitment

Allan Edwards buoyancy offerings like our concrete coating are fully tailored to the needs and preferences of our customers. Simply tell us how you want it done, and we’ll take it from there. We root ourselves in a commitment to offer flexible, efficient pipeline weighting solutions for our customers – because at the end of the day, our success wholly depends on how well we respond to these needs.
